Linting

Linting in offset printing is when the fine material is pulled from the surface of the paper by the tacky ink.  Linting is a particular issue when offset printing newsprint.  This is a complex problem as it is due to the interaction of paper, ink and fountain solution and printing press variables.  This research has been supported by the Australian Research Council,  through a SPIRT grant, the Smartprint CRC and Norske Skog, which is the only Australian manufacturer of newsprint and related grades.

This is the linting research group in 2005- Left to Right are: Paul Banham (Norske Skog), Warren Batchelor, Afriana Sudarno and Chamundi Gujjari (Australian Pulp and Paper Institute).  The photo was  taken at the Smartprint CRC annual conference in October 2005.
