Artifacts produced by the welder-o-doom.
The welder of doom was not just meant to impress friends and awe
my enemies, it also had to earn its keep. This is a selection of stuff
that it has produced.
This is my chipping hammer. An arc weld with consumeable electrodes
leaves the flux/slag layer behind. The slag is to protect the
incandescent iron from immediate oxidation. It must be removed before
you paint and to permit inspection of the weld. Many welds are not
welds but merely globs of slag which has no strength. The
tips of the hammer are made from pieces of old file and are very hard.
Materials here are nothing but bits of steel junk from the scrap
box.
These gates were biult and designed to stop toddlers and a much missed deceased doggy from playing on the road
This was purchased from the two buck and made from usually rotten
chinese steel. The tynes of this poor old fork would bend if you tried
to lift soft custard. I added a strengthening member and a foot pad.
The foot pad makes using this a real pleasure. This is a
modification to your garden fork that you will not regret.
A boot rack for drying out shoes, sneakers. Essential for the kids' grotty shoes.
There
is something deeply satisfying about being able to weld and form steel
and iron into usefull things. After all, the smithy is the worlds
oldest practical sorcery.
