The Crooked Villiage.
by Ilse Karla Margit de Groot
moral childrens fairy story with fairies, giants, small people, minor
and major disasters, relationship issues, metamorphosis and happy endings.
very, very long time ago my mother aspired to be a writer,
and write she did. Rejections slips were the order of the day.
Some of them were not rejection slips, but eventually her
enthusiasm abated and she went on the other things.
fairy story was written, dedicated to her children, at a time when I
was a tiny boy. It was a time when Enid Blyton was read to little
children, before Political Correctness put paid to that. It was a time
when the only stories deemed appropriate for little children were about
fairies, fluffy bunnies and enchanted animals. I think I know
why. World War Two was still a fresh and for too many, a horrific
memory and I think many childrens' authors wrote for their
own sanity and also keeping children amused .
These little characters aspire to be good, some are not so good but
they all learn to keep to the right path.
This little story
is very much in the style of Enid Blyton, it is very correct and very
proper and very appropriate for little children. Be my
guest, and read it to them before bedtime in smaller, bite
size chunks. They will forget these tales , but they will never forget this
time you shared with them.
