Aim and Mission
Astro-biology is a rapidly growing area of modern research. It is truly multi-disciplinary, covering the traditional areas of astronomy and bioilogy, of course, but also including geoscioence, atmospheric science, congitive science, artifical intelligence, advanced instrumentation, robotics and many more. It is an area currently moving from its historical background as a largely speculativeventure, to becomeing a solid quantitative science. It is thus an area of rapid movement, and very exciting.
Our aim is to use the expertise of Monash staff to help each other keep up to date in an efficient manner. By sharing knowledge and insights we hope to make it possible for everyone to keep up to date with minimal effort.

Upcoming Internal Events
If anyone wants to organsie an event please contact John Lattanzio with details. We welcome colloquia (accessible to people from many disciplines, please!) as well as more specialised research seminars.
- The Nova Rover Team's Mars Rover
Daniel Ricardo, Monash University
4pm Friday Feb 16
Room 110, 10 College Walk, Building 27
The Nova Rover Team is a group of undergraduate students currently
developing a next generation Mars rover to compete at the University
Rover Challenge (URC). Annually held at the Mars Desert Research Station
in Utah, the URC has over 100+ teams from 13 countries applying to compete,
only 30 are selected and this year the Nova Rover Team is aiming to be
Australia's first and only team to compete - a huge milestone in the
Australian space industry. Representing Monash University at an
international stage, the overall goal of the URC is to simulate a
manned mission on the surface of Mars with challenges each team must
complete. Included in this is autonomous traversal, extreme terrain,
equipment servicing and the science task.
Following the talk you will be able to examine the rover!
