For isoparametric elements the same shape functions are used to represent the global coordinate system

x = ? Ni (?,?) xi ;

y = ? Ni (?,?) yi ;

where xi and yi are the (x,y) coordinated of the i’th node.

Here ?,? are local isoparametric coordinates.
