For statistical analysis, Stata is very powerful. The R project for statistical computing is also a popular free stats package.

Metapad is an excellent text editor - all of MS Notepad's features and much more.

Filzip is a great free zip for many different file formats.

PrintKey 2000 is great for capturing screen shots in full or part.
