You will be watching excerpts of two German lessons in a year 4/5 primary school class.

At the end of each vieo please rate the state of the teacher and the children by ticking one of the numbers provided. Use this page for Video 1 and the reverse side for Video 2.

Before you start, please refer to the notes on page 3.

NOTES

 

Information on the content of the videos:

The children in both videos have been taught German for three weeks of 70 minutes
instruction daily. Total = 18 hours.

Each video contains the first 15 minutes (revision) and the last 10 minutes (elaboration
exercises) of one of these sessions.

Approximately identical items are dealt with in both videos, but not necessarily in an
identical order.

Please note that the sound in Video 1 is not as good as in Video 2.

 

Definitions of items on the rating scale:

 

CHILDREN

 

attentive:   refers to the degree of attention to the task.

well behaved:  refers to general class behaviour.

relaxed:  refers to whether children are stressed or not.
quick in responses:  refers to the time involved in responding to the teacher's actions/instructions.

 

TEACHER:  

 

demanding:  refers to the amount of pressure put on children to respond.
friendly:  refers to the atmosphere created by the teacher.

relaxed:  refers to whether the teacher is stressed or not.

positive:  refers to the teacher providing positive reinforcement.
clear:  refers to clarity in giving instructions.
enthusiastic:  refers to the teacher's interest in the teaching.
