anhuma

Word Class: AnaWu

seed pod of a mangrove tree sp.

Other information:

Notes: (ana, Rhizophora stylosa). (uncommon word) -aN- Pref There are a few verb doublets which suggest that a prefix of this type may be segmentable etymologically: =w2ada- vs. =ambada-, =w2amadha- vs. =ambamadha-, =w2i`dha- vs. =ambi`dha-, perhaps =w2alhalha- and variants vs. =ambalalhi-. No simple or consistent gloss can be suggested. There are many other stems beginning in -aN- where N is some nasal which also seem to be (on the basis of an internal rdp. pattern, for example) candidates for segmentation (amburuyuwuruyuj, =ambalawali-, etc.). Note also the numerous words for head (ambara, amba`, amburug, cpd. initials -ambaN-, -ambuluG-) and brain (ambubug, amburumburung). Distinct from kinship -ang-.
