J-Cycle Junior Program Finishes with a Bang!

Having repaired some tubes during their last session, the J-Cyclers tested out their handy work and finished the program with a bang by pumping them up until they burst. J-Cycle had the participants weaving, breaking, leaning, scanning, dodging and drafting all over the place as they learn’t valuable bike handling skills over the 8 weeks. The incredibly successful program was coordinated by Lawrence Maskill who together with Ross Henry, Geoff Gatt, Dave Bailey and Simon Cuckson engaged 13 juniors in a skills focused program that retained interest and enthusiasm for cycling throughout. The J-Cycle program made use of both the velodrome and Marist Sion which provided diversity and safety for the cyclists. The club is looking to run another J-Cycle program in the new year and hopes to further boost its junior stocks and secure the future of cycling.

Warragul Cycling Club has launced an exciting new junior program for boys and girls looking to get into cycling, and to gain some new skills.

The J-Cycle is running on Saturdays 10:30am – 12pm, at the Warragul Velodrome. It runs for eight weeks and is hosted by accredited coaches and focuses on safety, fun activities, learning new skills and meeting new friends.

Warragul Cycling Club’s Junior Committee Chair, Lawrence Maskill said “The program is a new initiative to provide kids with an avenue to learn new cycling skills, to develop those skills they may already have, and to make new cycling buddies in a friendly, safe environment.”

Ms Maskill said “Basically we want to give kids the opportunity to learn more about cycling and to participate in the sport. Cycling can be a family-oriented sport and we want to provide a way into the sport for families.”

It is not too late to register for the program with a cost of $35 per participant. The program will cover basic bike maintenance and safety, braking and cornering, riding in small bunches and provide a range of fun activities where children can practice and develop these skills.
