Background

Kate is a research assistant with the STEPS study. For six years she worked as the Researcher for The Alliance of Girls’ Schools Australasia. In this role, she conducted literature reviews and published papers on the topics of girls’ learning and single-sex education. Kate has presented these findings to principals, parents and educators across Australia and New Zealand. Prior to this, Kate was a secondary school teacher for five years. It is with this background that she became interested in the topic of girls and STEM, particularly the inequality of female participation in the STEM fields. Kate has also volunteered in a variety of roles, including tutoring refugees and disadvantaged adolescents, and coordinating a lunch program for residents in Carlton’s housing commission flats.

Research Interests

PhD topic: Gender and STEM – examining the maths and science aspirations of girls and women.
