Prof Brian G. Falzon obtained his Bachelor of Science in
Physics and Pure Mathematics, Bachelor of Engineering
(Hons I) and PhD in Aeronautical Engineering from the
University of Sydney. He spent twelve years at Imperial
College London where he was involved in government and
industry-funded research on advanced composite
aerostructures. He has received funding from the UK
Ministry of Defence/dstl , Airbus UK, BAE Systems,
QinetiQ and Shorts/Bombardier among others.
In 2008 Prof Falzon returned to Australia to take up the
Foundation Chair of Aerospace Engineering in the
Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at
Monash University. Prof Falzon established the Advanced
Aerostructures Research Laboratory and is currently
involved in collaborative research projects with Boeing
Research and Technology Australia, Safran/Microturbo and
the Cooperative Research Centre for Advanced Composite
Structures. His research interests include the
development of robust numerical algorithms for
predicting damage in composite structures, structural
optimisation, nano-enhanced multifunctional composite
aerostructures, structural composite repairs and the
development of virtual testing environments. He is
co-founder of Veryan Medical Limited, a company spin-off
from Imperial College, which is developing a number of
new implantable vascular.
Prof Falzon is a UK Chartered Engineer and a member of a
number of professional organisations and scientific
committees and sits on the Board of Directors of
Aviation/Aerospace Australia. He has received numerous
awards for his research, including the Silver Award and
George Taylor (of Australia) prize from the Royal
Aeronautical Society and a Future Summit Australian
Leadership Award. |
